If the history of cricket has proven anything, it is that not-so-athletic players can also dominate the field for years. Names like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Inzamam-ul-Haq don’t come to mind when you are talking about an athlete with an imposing physique.
Therefore, it becomes that much more praise-worthy when you look at the names mentioned below, who went out of their way to achieve physical and aesthetic excellence while meeting the gruelling requirements of as a cricketer:
Here are five cricketers who workout like beasts and have the most ripped physique in the game:
(disclaimer: The list includes current and former cricketers)
1. Andrew Symonds
Andrew Symonds may have struggled with disciplinary issues on the field but looking at his physique, agility and sheer power with which the man used to play the game, it was evident that he had a very strict workout regimen and stuck to it no matter what came his way.
2. Chris Gayle
If you have seen Chris Gayle stand tall with a massive bat in his hand, facing a bowler from any corner of the world, you could bet that he was going to smash the poor man for a long six.
While most of it was raw strength, Gayle has spoken about how much he loves to put in the extra effort, watch what he’s eating and simply take care of his body. Add his limitless swag to having the imposing physique and you have yourself what they call ‘Universe Boss’.
3. Faf du Plessis
The South African skipper isn’t one to lose his cool too easily but if you take a look at him without his t-shirt on, you would probably back away from even thinking about getting in a fight with him.
On the field, du Plessis has one of the quickest reflexes while chasing or catching the ball and is willing to put his body on the line for a wicket. Don’t believe us? Check this out:
4. Shane Watson
38-year-old Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is six-feet tall and weighs 93 kilos and even though he retired from international cricket in 2016, he has managed to maintain his physique resembling nothing short of a model.
The only difference is that back in his prime days, he had more chiselled and well-defined muscles, but now the man looks like a lumberjack.
5. Virat Kohli
Ah, the king of cricket and the king of transformations, the captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli.
His story towards fitness did have a lot to do with the ability to perform better. He changed his diet, started lifting heavier and once he could see the results, he was hooked for life. Now, Kohli not only trains for his own self but also extends challenges to his fans to get healthier.
6. Hardik Pandya
If showboating had a face, it would be Hardik Pandya’s. From giant tattoos on his arms and shoulders to wearing the most expensive jewellery he can get his hands on, the father-to-be doesn’t discount any excuse to carry the persona of a superstar.
Recovering from a lower back surgery, Pandya not only made his body stronger but even bulked up significantly and got rid of his previously skinny-looking frame.

7. Chris Tremlett
We are in the big league now, the guys who moved away from cricket and took up bodybuilding as a way of life. And our first candidate is England’s Chris Tremlett.
Not that the pacer wasn’t ginormous already during his days as a cricketer. He’s 6 feet 7 inches tall and had the ability to generate extra bounce because of his height and force but after bidding adieu to the game, Tremlett found his true calling in pumping iron. Back in June 2017 when the fast bowler shared his transformation journey, the world lost their mind.
8. David Lawrence
Yet another English pacer who had to move away from cricket because of an injury (broken knee cap), David Lawrence took it in his stride, brought in an exceptional amount of dietary and exercise-related discipline in his life and became an avid member of the UK’s bodybuilding circuit.
So much so, that he was awarded the National Amateur Body Building Association’s West of England champion for the over-40s for three consecutive years.
Bonus: S. Sreesanth
Yes, we all know what went down with former Indian pacer S Sreesanth on the field a few years ago. Ever since, the man has done jail-time, pleaded to the court for his return and almost won a reality show also, there’s something else that Sreesanth did. He got absolutely jacked.
If you look at his photos from winning the ICC World Cup 2011 and now, you won’t be able to understand how he was able to make this transformation.
