Amazon Prime Video just dropped the hilarious trailer of Gulabo Sitabo. The film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana is a hilarious land dispute comedy-drama set in a charming albeit old haveli.
Amitabh Bachchan plays Mirza, the owner of a ramshackle haveli, Fatema Mahal, in Lucknow and Ayushman Khuranna plays a renter, Baankey, who is constantly at loggerheads with him. The trailer begins with Baankey complaining about stolen bulbs from his room while pointing out the state of the property and the goats that are always around. To this, Mirza responds by taking a dig at him. That pretty much establishes their equation. We soon find out that the tenant has been living on the property without an increase in rent while the owner has been trying to ramp up expenses to make up for the lack of maintenance funds. Mirza decides to sell the haveli one fine day. Baankey is understandably annoyed by the idea and so is a government archaeologist who comes knocking at their door. Between the government offices and the bid for construction on Fatema Mahal’s land, the film looks like a land dispute drama waiting to unfold. By the end of the trailer, Baankey jokingly asks Mirza to adopt him, much to Mirza’s disdain.
Full disclosure, Gulabo Sitabo had me the moment Amitabh Bachchan begins sassing Ayushmann Khurrana. Their banter is an absolute delight to watch. The two characters’ love-hate relationship is a major attraction of the whole 2:41 minute-long trailer. And I’m sure Bollywood buffs can’t wait to see more of it.
A Rising Sun Production, the film is directed by Shoojit Sircar, written by Juhi Chaturvedi and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar. Gulabo Sitabo will premiere worldwide on June 12, 2020, on Amazon Prime Video.
