NEW DELHI: Twitter has started an initiative called #AskTheCM, where internet users can pose a question to a chief minister during a live session on the micro blogging platform. The initiative begins with Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, who will go online on May 23 at 12 pm to take questions from Twitter users.
According to Twitter, at least two other chief ministers, Jharkhand’s Hemant Soren and Punjab’s Captain Amarinder Singh have confirmed that they would hold a Twitter dialogue. The microblogging company expects more state leaders to join the online conversation in the coming weeks.
“#AskTheCM series is a concerted effort to bring citizens and Chief Ministers across the states closer together and facilitate active and real-time dialogue, as it would happen at a digital public square,” Twitter public policy director for India and South Asia Kaul told TOI.
Vijayan himself took to Twitter to announce that he would be answering people’s questions. Even before the campaign took off, several people had used the hashtag to ask questions to Vijayan.
“In the post-Covid Kerala, how do we plan for resuming the cultural scene – films, theatre, concerts, art exhibition and the like? #AskPinarayiVijayan,” wrote a user who goes by the handle @aryaprakash.
